"No matter how astute a business person you are, or how skilled you are as an investor, the best offense is frequently a good defense. The more assets people think you have, the more tempting a target you will become. To protect what you have, it’s vital to take some defensive measures.

The police were not created to protect and serve the general population, or to promote abstract airy-fairy concepts like 'justice'. They were created to protect the new form of wage-labor capitalism that emerged in the mid- to late-19th century from the threat posed by a united working class.

Before the 19th century, there were no police forces that we would recognise as such anywhere in the world. The wealthy elite who ran the various municipal governments hired hundreds and then thousands of armed men to impose order on the new working class neighbourhoods.

The police were created to use violence to reconcile electoral democracy with industrial capitalism. Today, they are just one part of the “criminal justice” system which continues to play the same role. Their basic job is to enforce order among those with the most reason to resent the system—who in our society today are disproportionately poor and/or black people.

Protecting civilization - by which we mean, your assets and the human resources required to generate them - from the disorder of the working class is essential. The violence the police carry out and their moral separation from those they patrol is not the consequence of the brutality of individual officers, but the consequences of careful policies designed to mould the police into a force that can use violence to deal with the social problems that accompany the development of a wage-labor economy - and to protect your assets.

(Of course, a truly democratic police system is imaginable—one in which police are elected by and accountable to the people they actually patrol. But don't worry - at this stage, that is definitely a long way off, if even on the horizon.)

Don't panic - your assets are well and truly safe, and your expendable labour force is well and truly under control."
